I've never done a piece before that uses a photograph and audio, so I'm not sure what I have to write about it. the photograph is of my sister and the audio is a conversation between me and her about her appearance. Is it subtle discrimination or is the lady in the art gallery just stuck up? I was an art gallery exhibition last week and I had my work in it along with other peoples' art. There was a table where the woman served drinks. I came up to the table and smiled at her, waited patiently. She just ignored me and carried on a conversation with an older man like I wasn't there. I waited 5 minutes and I smiled at her and she glanced at me and continued talking. Other people came and she immediately stopped talking and served them. I never met her in my life, but when I came up to get a drink, I ended up serving myself. She said that she knew who I was but she was unfriendly and cold. By the way everyone in there was caucasian and I was the only asian american there. Is she just stuck up or is it subtle racism? I don't think it was about business because the other people coming up to get drinks were also employees or other artists. She was talking to one of the artists in the exhibition.

Is anyone here offended by art on the underground ? We learn today that a sixteenth century masterpiece, “Venus in a Landscape”, by Lucas Cranach the Elder, has been banned from the London Underground – because of “worries that it will offend commuters”! Which commuters are felt to be in danger of being offended has not, as yet, been revealed! The “problem” is claimed to be that a poster, featuring a medieval painting of a Venus in the nude, was to have been displayed on the Underground to advertise a forthcoming Royal Academy of Arts exhibition of a selection of the works of the 16th century German artist. The Exhibition, which runs from March 8th to June 8th, will be the first major showing of Cranach’s work in Britain. It is said to be a collaboration between the Städel Museum, Frankfurt am Main and the Royal Academy, and will bring together some 70 works chosen to represent the quality and range of this important master.
