Is there an expectation that elected representatives

must exhibit a level of consistency in their judgment ? Or, should they simply vote based on what is popular?

1. I always thought that they were supposed to represent those that elected them, now a days they seem to govern by polling fiat. However the wind is blowing today is what they support. Just let the news media tell us what is important, so that the electorate does not have to expend the mental energy needed to make an informed decision.
