Why is the Red Sox playing for real in Japan but will play in spring training games later in the week?
Ok I know I'm not the brighest man on earth but Bud Selig must be smoking the pipe a bit too much. I don't mind if they open their games in Japan but to have them play 2 games vs the dodgers that doesn't mean anything is totally ridiculous. How does that work? Has there ever been game like this where a game counted 1 day and a couple of days later, the game is just an exhibition?

- " doesn't mean anything " ????/ The fricken Dodgers and the LA Times and the local TV are acting like it's the most important sporting event in the last 10 years...... Edit- Uh, I know this is a difficult concept, but no, the Dodger-Red Sox exibition DOES NOT count in the standings. .
- Because Bud Selig is an idiot and only he could pull this off.
- they played red soxs won.who cares now.
- This messed up schedule will handicap the Red Sox for a few weeks into the season. Don't expect the Red Sox to run away with the division so early.
- angel apologist : of course it doesn't mean anything. will the stats count and will the win count towards the standing. please don't answer when you're making a dumb statement. you're the one making the game more that what it is, it's an exhibition and whoa i'm offended you dumb fuc.k.
- I am guessing so they can come back and re-adjust to the time change...they get to play a couple games to shake off the jet lag and get ready for the start of their season on this continent...and yes their have been games that counted then and exhibition and then back to regular season...its called the Hall of Fame game...although this is the last year of that game.
- Scheduling. It's along trp to Japan and it gives the Sox time to settle when they get back. It's a longway from Japan to Boston. Plus the team had to cut Spring Trainign short for the trip and the players therefore had less time to get into shape. This gives them the chance. As the guy w/Manny on the avatar said they need time to readjust to the timezone. The Sox won't play their stars vs. LA and it gives them some rest. After LA they play 2 in Oakland head to Toronto for 3 b4 returning home for the home opener on 4-8 vs. Detroit
- I agree with you about the dodgers, but you went a little overboard!
