As a painter based in nigeria, how do i get involved in international exhibitions?

  1. It will be very difficult for anyone from Nigeria to be trusted and respected in the international community. Unfortunately, based on the actions of a few disreputable Nigerians perpetrating "419 scams" (advance fee scams), "Nigerian" has become synonymous with "scammer" in the minds of many people in other countries. So, there may be a presumption that your artwork is something that you are trying to smuggle out of Nigeria because it is worth millions and you'd be willing to share a portion of those millions with anyone who would help you, but you'd need them to send you money to help get the process started. I wish you luck in overcoming those unfortunate stereotypes and getting involved in international exhibitions as a legitimate painter.
  2. Simply join ArtWanted. It is easy to use and free to join and you will get the initial exposure you need. 20,000 artists post their works there and I am getting over 300 hits a day on my stuff without having added any new work for months. http://www.artwanted.com/artist.cfm?ArtID=31019&SubGal=Oil Its a start!
  3. Hi, The International Artist magazine has a regular online competition that you may enter. If your name appears (you may not win but you may be selected for a future article), it will be good for you. Also check these sites for competitions : http://www.artshow.com http://www.artdeadline.com Be part of an online comunity such as Wetcanvas or Artpapa. Good luck ! José
